The restaurant at Desert Hot Springs Spa, at 10805 Palm Drive in Desert Hot Springs, was inspected May 17 in conjunction with a food-borne illness complaint, and received a failing grade of 73/C with four critical violations. A cook didn’t wash hands after drinking from a cup at the cook line. A cook-line refrigerator wasn’t working and all the food inside was discarded for being at an unsafe temperature. Some containers of clam chowder and tortilla soup prepared that morning were sitting out at room temperature. And a dishwasher wasn’t dispensing sanitizer. The broken refrigerator and dishwasher were impounded until they can be fixed or replaced. Among the nine lesser violations, the inspector noted flies in the kitchen and multiple areas that needed detailed cleaning.
