I can’t help but notice how many empty commercial spaces there are in Desert Hot Springs.  I mean it’s not like the economy is doing poor right now, it’s definitely not.

One really strange thing about all the commercial spaces that are empty in Desert Hot Springs is how many of them are empty surrounding city hall.  One after another adjacent the intersection of Palm Drive and Pierson Boulevard you see commercial space available signs behind the glass at all 3 corners not the Desert Hot Springs City Hall corner.

How can real estate agents have so many properties that sometimes sit empty for years and not have the property owner drop the agent for not renting the space out in a timely manner?  Wouldn’t it make sense to think that the real estate agent is doing a poor job at getting the spaces rented if the space sits on the market for over 12-18 months?  Could it be that the people responsible for the property want the property to be vacant?  Are taxpayers subsidizing the property owners that are holding vacant properties?

What is keeping them from getting rented in Desert Hot Springs?  Is it the cost per month being asked?  Is it the location?  It can’t always be location, some of these empty spaces are located next to major national corporate chains known as anchors.  Some of them are located on city property.  Some of them look to be beautifully remodeled and very updated to match modern architecture.

So what gives?  What makes these spaces so unwanted?  Is it that they are in Desert Hot Springs?  Do people not want to rent space in Desert Hot Springs because they think it’s not a safe city to start a business in?

With commercial space in Palm Springs fetching $2.75 per s/f/month and Desert Hot Springs retail space being offered at $1.45 per s/f/month you would think that Desert Hot Springs would win the lease war.

Anyway have a look for yourself at the countless empty and vacant retail spaces in Desert Hot Springs.  These vacancies serve as blight, project an image of a city in distress, and are grounds for homeless to break into or occupy.
