The June 19th City Council Meeting in Desert Hot Springs took place in front of a moderate audience of attendees. I saw some people I knew and some I had never seen before.
Some highlights I took away from the meeting were first from public comments by residents and elected servants and city staff;
A woman who said she lived on 5th street was there because she had no where else to turn about her water showing signs of being contaminated. Here landlord was also there and denied there was a problem even though the woman brought in what was obvious to me was a bottle of water that had rust particles in it from rusting galvanized pipes installed decades and decades ago.
Russ Betts told us about the massive amount of migrants that are overwhelming the border and I believe he’s just warning us about the future wave of illegal immigrants we’re about to be fed by our immigration law ignoring government. Russ also said Desert Hot Springs is getting 2 450 foot tall windmills by “painted hills” and we’re losing hundreds of other windmills in exchange for the 2 new giant ones.
The new police chief cheered crime statistics that looked good compared to the past but failed to mention that he was enforcing more heavily on Memorial Day Weekend. That bumped his traffic stop numbers up and his citation numbers up.
Jan Pye went on an extended jag about attending a texas june teenth event where Gary Gardner said he had to where all white to attend making him look like a “snowball.”
Now the Agenda
Every single item passed unanimously in another ominous warning that Mayor Scott Matas has immorally built a unified and singular thinking city council. More and more it looks like we have 1 city council member and that is 5 Scott Matas’s.
They passed raising taxes to pay for maintenance on those new medians they built $500,000 in total will be passed on to the taxpayers.
They passed $185,000 more money spent to DESERT VALLEY DISPOSAL to clean up more trash in the city and before they did they whined and complained about having to do it. They are so out of touch with reality it makes one’s head spin. They have an employee from the DVD corporation in the room who clearly has a vested interest in getting more money out of the city for more services and at the same time the city council keeps the numbered streets in a constant state of ghetto. A disgrace is what most would call the piles of garbage and refuse that is piled up on the curbs day and night down there and the city council has the nerve to say the citizens should do more to clean up their city. Completely out of touch is what I would call that discussion of that item on the agenda.
The City over the next month is going to own the health and wellness center outright. They plan on burning the mortgage for it after they legally swallow the property in to the city of DHS.
They approved some property to be sold on Pierson for under a hundred thousand dollars in prime location within the Vortex Specific Plan in downtown DHS.
Anayeli Zavala chose Florence Martin to be on the Public Safety Commission further enforcing their lack of diversity of thought when it comes to their imagined dominance over the city of Desert Hot Springs. The Martin couple are extremely connected to the city and have been for a long time. There were many applications turned in to the city for that seat on the Public Safety Commission and they took the safest route for themselves I think they could.
They didn’t bat an eye when passing paying MIG Inc $80,000 to prepare more of the housing plan for the city.
They worried not about the $125,000 they approved for extending the street sweeping contract.
They quickly approve over $100,000 dollars for public works inspection services.
BUT WHOA NELLY ON THE NEXT ITEM. Some on the city council showed a GIGANTIC concern over donating $25,000 to kids to go to college on scholarships. Remember they just approved almost 3/4 of a million dollars for other projects but this item took almost 45 minutes while they grilled the representative of the One Future Coachella group. Oh how the virtue signalling and grandstanding took place over this. They eventually approved it after Jan Pye said “we just don’t have the money for this.” So they approved it to be paid after the woman said they needed the money. She said they needed it in August but the city approved it to be paid out after September. Unbelievable.
Then the meeting adjourned. But not without noticing that the room reaked of not caring about issues being discussed. It’s like the room was filled with many robots just laughing when Matas was witty and quiet when comments were asked for.
I hope things improve down at the city council chambers because right now I see no deviation from the same old same old.
