Rain and thunderstorms are possible in the Coachella Valley on Wednesday evening, forecasters said.

Forecasters listed the possibility of storms at 20 percent, though other parts of the county have a greater chance, especially in the mountains of Riverside County and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning, according to the National Weather Service.

The threat of thunderstorms comes 25 years to the date after thunderstorms hit Yucca Valley and Desert Hot Springs, producing severe winds that ripped off roofs and downed power lines and trees, according to the weather service. “Three people were injured when a small shed landed on them after it was lifted by the winds,” the weather service said.

The mountains will have a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms each afternoon through Sunday, weather service meteorologist Samantha Connolly said. Temperatures are expected to warm through Friday, then cool over the weekend.

High temperatures Wednesday will be 92 to 97 in the Coachella Valley. Elsewhere in the county, highs will be 78 to 83 degrees in the Riverside metropolitan area, 70 to 80 in the mountains and 89 to 94 in the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning.
