Next Tuesday June 25th 11 people who have yet to be named will fight for 1 seat on the city council.
Councilwoman Anayeli Zavala will be giving up her seat in the very near future and the city council has decided to choose from applicants (basically hand pick) who will fill her seat this summer through til next November.
The interview process will kick off at 5 p.m. at the Carl May Center so show up and ask questions of the 11 applicants seeking confirmation of the seat.
Knowing the Mayor and the city staff like to control who is on the city council there were almost assuredly plans made ahead of time with the chosen couple of people that they want to be in the seat. Only one will get it but due to the possibility of one of them getting sick or not interviewing well Mayor Matas has likely pre selected his future councilperson and an alternate or 2.
With the paranoia of being viewed as not diverse on his council Mayor Matas has likely instructed all the parties involved that this choice is going to be a woman to fill the seat. He seeks safe public perception ground whenever possible instead of who would be better suited to fill the position.
It’s possible that Mayor Matas will lean towards a minority female and if he can choose one that is of even more minority subgroups to score more points towards diversity I’m sure he has tried. A member of the LGBTQ community perhaps would not only look good for him but it will also insulate the candidate from criticism of his/her potential future bad choices.
This is how corrupt and controlled governments operate today. It’s about 80 percent how the public sees just about everything that’s done by city hall. They don’t produce anything so they forward agendas for people who are much smarter than them and they lay higher and higher courses of metaphorical slumpstone around their position in office.
And hand selecting the person to fill the seat next to him will most definitely be the grout to fill the joints of another row of block walling average people with good ideas and a passion for DHS out.
Anyway be there this coming Tuesday to see the dog and pony show that is being called

I do not agree with your assessment of the process. I applied. I am no ones pawn. I an an independent thinker, an average Joe. The process has been completely above board from my vantage point.
We are a diverse city with many different types of people with many different viewpoints and opinions. Our own Mayor has said he wanted to bring more unity to the council and he got it. What makes me believe he will deviate from that plan at the meeting with you this coming Tuesday? Unity means sameness, oneness, agreement. That is dangerous to a diverse community to have sameness among the council in my opinon.
The argument can easily be made that if the council was an embarrassment in the past and there was lack of unity at that time, maybe the personalities on the council were the problem not the diversity of thoughts and ideas.
If people can be elected and work together and have largely different ideas and opinions and still keep civil and work together then you have a balanced city council.
I hope what you say is true but I’m very skeptical of the others involved besides you Mr. Tinker.
